Dallas Cowboys History
The Dallas Cowboys franchise is the most successful in the history of the National Football League. The Cowboys have played in more Super Bowls than any other NFL team, a total of 8. The Cowboys have won 5 Super Bowls, which leaves them tied at the top with San Francisco and Pittsburgh.
Dallas was granted their NFL franchise on January 28th, 1960. They are based in the Dallas suburb of Irving, Texas. The team currently plays their home games at Texas Stadium in Irving, but they are scheduled to move to a new stadium in nearby Arlington in 2009.
In the initial months following their formation, the Dallas team was known as the “Steers.” They soon changed their name to the Cowboys prior to the start of the 1960 season.
